Riders shut out in game two of doubleheader

Frisco manages just two hits in 2-0 loss
June 16, 2016

FRISCO, TEXAS (June 16, 2016) - The Frisco RoughRiders, the Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, notched just two infield hits and lost 2-0 against the Corpus Christi Hooks in the second game of a doubleheader Thursday night at Dr Pepper Ballpark.

The Hooks (43-23) took an early lead on a two-run home from Alex Bregman to give the Hooks a 2-0 lead. Those were the only two runs surrendered by Riders starter David Perez (1-2),who worked five innings, allowing two runs on three hits, while walking one batter and striking out two.,

Despite quality pitching from Perez and reliever Jake Shortslef, the Riders (37-28) struggled to muster much in the way of offense against Hooks starter Edison Frias (3-0). The righty tossed six shutout innings and picked up the win, allowing just two hits-both infield singles-and three walks, while fanning three. The Riders' best chance to get on the board came in the bottom half of the sixth, as they loaded the bases with just one out. However, Alex Burg hit into a double play to end the rally. Aaron West shut things down in the seventh for his eighth save of the season.

With Frisco's loss, Corpus Christi clinches the South Division first-half title. The Hooks trailed Frisco by as many as 5.5 games but used a strong final month of the half to take the title and clinch a playoff spot.

Game four of Frisco's five-game series with the Hooks is Friday night at 7:05 p.m. Right-hander Luis Ortiz (1-3, 3.57 ERA) will get the start for the Riders and face off against Corpus Christi's Cy Sneed (3-1, 3.65 ERA). Fans can follow the action live on the Frisco RoughRiders Radio Network, on the TuneIn Radio App, and the MiLB First Pitch App.

Tomorrow is also First Responders Night, featuring a guest appearance from Erik Estrada and post-game fireworks. Tickets are available online at RidersBaseball.com, via email at [email protected], over the phone at (972) 731-9200, or in-person at the RoughRiders box office.
