Ramirez Racks Up Ks for TinCaps
DAYTON, Ohio -- Starting pitcher Emmanuel Ramirez struck out eight batters over six innings for the TinCaps, but Fort Wayne lost to the Dayton Dragons (Cincinnati Reds), 2-0, on Wednesday night at Fifth Third Field.
Dayton (19-33, 40-82) second baseman Alberti Chavez drove in both of the game's runs. In the fourth, he delivered a sacrifice fly for the only run against Ramirez (L, 2-1). Then in the seventh, Chavez vaulted a solo home run to left-center field. Wednesday was Chavez's first game of the season with the Dragons, after he was called up Tuesday from Rookie-level Billings.
Tony Santillan (W, 2-2) held the TinCaps to one hit over 5 2/3 innings as he struck out 10. Ryan Hendrix then bridged the gap to Sarkis Ohanian (S, 13) for the ninth.
Fort Wayne (20-32, 56-66) finished with only two hits -- a Tyler Selesky single in the second and an Alan Garcia single in the ninth. The TinCaps did draw four walks, had a batter hit by a pitch, and another reach on a wild pitch third strike, but went 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position and left seven on base.
