TinCaps Falter in Finale With Captains

Lake County claims series with 6-1 victory
August 21, 2016

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The TinCaps remained quiet offensively and dropped the series finale with the Lake County Captains (Cleveland Indians), 6-1, on Sunday afternoon at Parkview Field.

The Captains (26-29 second half, 66-59 overall) plated two runs in the first, two more in the second and another couple in the fifth to take the rubber game from the TinCaps (21-35, 57-69).

Fort Wayne notched just seven hits, including three infield singles, and has only scored eight combined runs in the last nine games.

In a battle of highly-touted teenage pitching prospects, Captains starter Triston McKenzie (W, 1-1) outdueled TinCaps righty Anderson Espinoza (L, 0-3). McKenzie fanned eight over 5.2 shutout stanzas, while Espinoza allowed six hits and four runs and didn't make it out of the second.

The TinCaps pushed across a run in the bottom of the seventh inning when first baseman Brad Zunica reached on a popup that dropped on the infield and later scored on a wild pitch.

TinCaps right-hander Blake Rogers provided 4.1 innings of two-run ball out of the bullpen, and fellow righty Aaron Cressley punched out five over three scoreless innings.
