Melton's blast lifts Rockies over Chukars

Hunter Melton's eighth inning 2-run homer, lifted the Grand Junction Rockies to a 5-4 win over the Idaho Falls Chukars Monday night at Suplizio Field.

Melton's homer, his fifth of the season, came with one out and the Rockies trailing 4-3. Colton Welker preceeded the blast after he reached on a strikeout due to a passed ball on Chukars' catcher Nick Dini.

The Rockies comeback came after Idaho Falls put up four runs in the seventh inning, with Meibrys Viloria doubling home the final two. Before that, Bryan Baker kept the Chukars off the board with six shutout innings, striking out six.

Jose Gomez gave the Rockies the lead in the third with an RBI double, and Manny Melendez tripled home Cole Anderson and scored on a Dini error to make it 3-0.

Matt Dennis retired all six he faced in the eighth and ninth inning, earning his fifth win of the season, as the Rockies improve to 12-8 in the second. They are now 1.5 games up on Ogden for first place in the South Division with 17 games left to play.
