August 28, 2016

MIDLAND, TEXAS (August 28, 2016) - The Frisco RoughRiders, the Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, were shut out 5-0 by the Midland RockHounds Sunday afternoon at Security Bank Ballpark.

Reed Garrett (3-7) made the start for Frisco and allowed just one unearned run on one hit through his first four innings of work. However, the righty surrendered four runs, three earned, in the fifth. The RockHounds (73-59 overall, 40-22 second half) got each of their first three RBI from Brett Vertigan, who finished 2-for-4 with a double.

Garrett struck out five in his five innings of work but was saddled with the defeat. Relievers Frank Lopez and Luke Jackson combined to work three scoreless innings out of the bullpen, contributing five more strikeouts to the cause. It marked the third time in the last four games that Riders pitching tallied at least 10 strikeouts.

Midland's Heath Fillmyer (2-0) led the way for the RockHounds, keeping Frisco (60-71, 22-40) scoreless on two hits in his five innings of work. On the day, the Riders were held to just three hits and one walk.
