Carroll strong again, but bullpen touched up in 4-2 loss

Frisco out-hits Corpus Christi in loss for second straight game
August 31, 2016

FRISCO, TEXAS (August 31, 2016) - The Frisco RoughRiders, the Double-A affiliate of the Rangers, had a pair of early leads vanish in a 4-2 loss to the Corpus Christi Hooks Wednesday night at Dr Pepper Ballpark.

Scott Carroll led the way for the Riders (60-73 overall, 22-42 second half) allowing just one run on five hits in five innings of work. Carroll has now allowed one run or fewer in each of his last three starts, and he has only allowed more than two runs in one of his six appearances with Frisco.

However, Corpus Christi (82-53, 35-30) bounced back with tallies in the sixth, seventh, and eighth off relievers David Perez, Ryne Slack, and Juan Grullon, respectively. After the Hooks tied the game on Conrad Gregor's sixth-inning triple, Slack (2-4) issued a two-out walk to J.D. Davis with the bases loaded in the seventh to give Corpus Christi a 3-2 advantage.

For the second straight game, the RoughRiders out-hit the Hooks in a loss. Frisco scored its runs on Joe Jackson's RBI double in the first and Darin Mastroianni's RBI single in the fifth, taking one-run leads with both hits.

Corpus Christi starter Trent Thornton (3-1) went a career-high eight innings for the Hooks, allowing two runs on eight hits with a pair of strikeouts. Jacob Dorris worked a perfect ninth inning to earn his third save.

The Riders continue the four-game series Thursday at 7:05 p.m. at Dr Pepper Ballpark. Righty Connor Sadzeck (9-8, 4.33 ERA) is scheduled to make the start for the Riders against Francis Martes (9-5, 3.32 ERA). Fans can watch on MiLB.tv (subscription required) or listen to the action live on the Frisco RoughRiders Radio Network, the TuneIn Radio App, and the MiLB First Pitch App. Live coverage begins at 6:30 p.m. with the Dr Pepper Pregame Show.

Thursday night is another Thirsty Thursday at Dr Pepper Ballpark, featuring $1 domestic draft beers, $2 craft and import beers, and $2 Palm Breeze beverages from 6:00-8:00 p.m, and $1 Dr Pepper products all game long. Plus, it is another "Groovy Grubesday," starring Michael Gruber (@TweetGrubes) himself, the RoughRiders "Ambassador of Fun." One lucky fan will take home a larger-than-life-size (six feet tall) Grubes bobblehead.

Thursday also marks the final Thursday Night Pool Party of the 2016 season in the Choctaw Lazy River. For just $39, fans can enjoy pre-game music, complimentary hot dogs, brats, chips, and Dr Pepper products, plus a spot in the largest water feature in all of professional sports.
