PEARL, MS -- After a one hour and 34 minute rain delay to the start the game, the Mississippi Braves and Jackson General finally got underway in West Tennessee. The Braves unloaded for 15 hits despite four errors to claim a 6-4 victory over the Generals Tuesday night. The series continues Wednesday at 6:05 PM.
Mississippi (25-26) scored six runs on 15 hits while Jackson (27-24) plated four runs on seven hits. Ronald Acuña Jr. and Joey Meneses led the M-Braves offensively, as both players posted 3-for-5 nights at the plate. Meneses added two RBI while Acuna scored once and drove in one run. Luiz Valenzuela, Travis Demeritte and Kade Scivicque all added two hits apiece.
Former Atlanta Brave Kris Medlen made his first start for the M-Braves this season. He tossed 4.1 innings and surrendered three runs, only one earned, on six hits and two walks. Medlen struck out four batters but did not factor in the decision.

After the inclement weather moved through the area, the Braves jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the first. Valenzuela and Demeritte both singled to start the frame before Meneses delivered a RBI-single to center. Jackson then responded to tie the game 1-1 in the bottom of the first thanks in large part to three M-Braves errors.
In the third, Acuna singled and Demeritte walked. Meneses added a single to load the bases for a Keith Curcio sacrifice fly, making it a 2-1 game. Scivicque then ripped a single to left field, extending the Braves lead to 3-1.
Valenzuela walked and scored on an Acuna double to left to start the fourth for the Braves. Acuna was thrown out at third. Demeritte then doubled and scored on another base hit from Meneses to give the M-Braves a 5-1 advantage.
The Generals responded in the bottom of the frame to make it a 5-3 game. Dawel Lugo singled and Oscar Hernández walked. Evan Marzilli then doubled to right field, plating Lugo. Kevin Medrano reached on an error and Victor Reyes later grounded into a force out which allowed Hernandez to score the second run of the inning.
The Braves tacked on another run in the fifth. Stephen Gaylor and Reed Harper both walked and moved up a bag on Medlen's sac bunt. Valenzuela then ripped a RBI-single to right, making it a 6-3 game.
Kevin Cron blasted a solo homer in the seventh for Jackson to cut the Braves lead to 6-4 but that was the final run on the night for the Generals.
Danny Reynolds (1-2) tossed 1.2 innings in relief for Mississippi and picked up the win. He struck out three and did not give up a hit. Luiz Gohara worked two innings, giving up the solo homer in the seventh. He struck out four. Rex Brothers (S, 1) came on in the ninth to notch the save.
Brad Keller (3-3) took the loss, giving up three earned runs on seven hits and a walk.
In game two of this five-game series, the M-Braves send right-hander Mike Soroka (5-3, 2.96) to the hill. Jackson will counter with lefty Alex Young (3-2, 4.08). First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 PM CST at The Ballpark at Jackson.
