A five-run outburst in the seventh paved the way for an easy Hens win Friday night on the back of Omar Infante's three-RBI night.
The sixth inning is where the breakthrough came for the Hens. They got started right away with a single by Brendan Ryan and double by Matt den Dekker to put runners on second and third with no outs. Despite getting a ground out from Jim Adduci, Mike Wright gave up a run to Ryan when Infante grounded out.
Not content with just tying the game, the Hens broke out for four more runs in the seventh. Again, Wright fell victim to back-to-back hits to lead off the inning, this time singles courtesy of Jeimer Candelario and Tyler Collins. Wright appeared to catch a break when Candelario was thrown out at home on a single by Jason Krizan, but Ryan made it a moot point by singling home Collins in the next at-bat. After a walk by den Dekker loaded the bases, Adduci drew a walk of his own that scored Krizan to make it 2-0.
Wright was taken out after the two runs with the three remaining on base, all on his bill. Vidal Nuño III entered with two outs trying to strand those inherited runners but let in two when Infante welcomed him to the game with a two-run single.
Bruce Rondón entered in the eighth wlooking to provide another solid outing but immediately gave up a home run to Chance Sisco that made it 5-2. He closed the inning before anything more could happen, and Edward Mujica picked up the save in the ninth to mark his 14th on the year.
Myles Jaye turned in another solid start for the Hens despite not being credited with the win. The righty went 5.1 innings and gave up just one run on seven hits. He walked three and struck out three. After surrendering a total of seven runs in his last two starts, the one-run outing was more than welcome whether he got the decision or not.
The Hens' next bout with the Tides takes place Saturday evening at 7:05 p.m. in Norfolk.
