Ports Rally From Down Six, Stun Giants In 10

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The Stockton Ports enjoyed their biggest come-from-behind victory of the season on Friday night at Excite Ballpark. Trailing by six runs going into the seventh, Stockton rallied to score nine unanswered runs and hand the San Jose Giants an 11-8 loss in the second game of their four-game series.
The game began with surprise ejections as Ports starter Brady Feigl struggled out of the game, allowing four straight hits to open the game followed by a four-pitch walk with the bases loaded. After a David Villar sacrifice fly made it 3-0, Feigl induced a double play off the bat of Manuel Geraldo to end the inning. As Feigl was walking back to the first base dugout, he was talking from a distance with home plate umpire Chris Presley who then ejected him along with manager Webster Garrison who came down the line to intervene.
Jake Bray took over for Feigl and went on to work four scoreless innings while striking out four and retiring the final 10 batters he faced.
Stockton's first run came in the fourth inning as Alfonso Rivas walked to open the frame and scored two batters later on an RBI groundout by Trace Loehr. In the fifth, Josh Watson led off with his first professional home run to make it a 3-2 contest. It was the last run allowed by Giants starter Sean Hjelle, who was rendered a no-decision after going five innings and allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits while striking out a career-best nine.
San Jose appeared to have put the game away in the sixth inning as the Giants scored five runs in the frame. Sam Sheehan opened the inning on the mound for the Ports and gave up a single and a walk. After a double play left a runner at third with two outs, Sheehan gave up an RBI single to Villar followed by back-to-back walks. Randy Norris followed with a two-run single to right to chase Sheehan from the game and make it 6-2. Pat Krall took over and gave up a two-run single to Heliot Ramos that ballooned the Giants lead to 8-2.
Sheehan was charged with five runs on three hits in two-thirds of an inning. Krall would go on to work 1 1/3 innings and not allow a run of his own.
Stockton began erasing the deficit in the seventh as Lazaro Armenteros came up with two on and two out and doubled down the left field line to bring the Ports to within four runs at 8-4. Those were the only two runs allowed by Giants reliever Mac Marshall in his two innings of work.
Joey Marciano took over to begin the eighth and would see the bases loaded on a hit batter and two walks with one out. Jameson Hannah came up and reached on an infield single to drive in a run and make it 8-5. Marciano was then lifted for Camilo Doval. After a passed ball allowed a second run in the inning to score and make it 8-6, Alfonso Rivas delivered a two-out, two-run single to left-center to tie the game at 8-8.
Marciano was charged with four runs on three hits in a third of an inning. Doval would not allow a run of his own over 1 2/3 innings worked.
Nick Highberger (4-2) came on in relief of Krall to begin the eighth and would work two scoreless innings and eventually pick up the victory.
Garrett Cave (0-4) took over for Doval in the 10^th and saw Mickey McDonald advance Stockton's free runner to third with a sacrifice bunt. The Ports then got back-to-back triples from Watson and Hannah to take a 10-8 lead. Jonah Bride followed with an RBI single to left to make it 11-8. Cave would suffer the loss after allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits while striking out two.
Wandisson Charles (SV, 2) took over for Highberger to pitch the bottom of the 10^th and worked around a one-out walk, getting Ramos to strike out and Joey Bart to pop out to the infield to close out the ballgame and notch his second save of the season.
The Ports and Giants play the third game of their four-game series on Saturday night at Excite Ballpark. Mitchell Jordan (6-4, 4.83 ERA) makes the start for Stockton, opposed by San Jose right-hander Aaron Phillips (4-5, 4.90 ERA). First pitch is set for 5 p.m. PDT.
