NASHVILLE, TN --- The Norfolk Tides (13-15) defeated the Nashville Sounds (13-15), 11-5, on Tuesday night at First Horizon Park. It was the Tides’ fourth straight victory, highlighted by four home runs and a seven-run sixth inning.

Norfolk hit their first two home runs in the third inning. Jackson Holliday singled then scored on a home run by Connor Norby. Two batters later, Kyle Stowers launched a solo homer to put the Tides up 3-0.

Daniel Johnson hit the third Tides home run of the night in the fourth inning, his fourth of the season. That gave Tides starter Bruce Zimmermann more than enough room to deal. He ended up going 5.0 scoreless innings, giving up three hits and one walk while striking out four. Zimmermann threw 72 pitches, 47 for strikes.

The seven-run inning for the Tides came in the sixth inning. Johnson hit in another two runs on a single to kick off the inning. Holliday later knocked him in for a third run. Norby ripped an RBI double to tally another run. To cap the big inning, Coby Mayo launched a three-run homer to go up 11-0.

Nashville did break up the shutout in the bottom-half of the seventh when Francisco Mejía knocked a two-run single. In the ninth, the Sounds scored three more runs but that would be all as the Tides won the series opener, 11-5.

Game two of the series is at 7:35 p.m. tomorrow night. LHP Cade Povich (2-1, 1.03) is on the hill for Norfolk, while LHP Aaron Ashby (0-2, 11.20) will start for the Sounds.
