May 3, 2024 - EVERETT, WA: Ty Cummings picked up his first win of the season Friday afternoon at Funko Field, propelling Everett to an 8-5 victory over Hillsboro. It was his fourth start allowing two runs or less. Cummings threw five innings of one-run ball while striking out four Hops. Cummings’ season ERA now sits at 2.63 as his only blip of the day came on a solo home run allowed to Andrew Pintar in the top of the third inning.

With Hillsboro ahead 1-0 in the third inning, RJ Schreck gave the lead to the AquaSox. Following a single by Brock Rodden, Schreck hit his second home run of the series to put the Sox ahead 2-1. From there on, the Frogs continued to tack on runs through the end of the fifth inning

In the fourth inning, Victor Labrada singled and stole a base. After an obstruction at second base allowed Labrada to advance to third base, Axel Sanchez hit a sacrifice fly to bring Labrada home. Sanchez now has three RBIs in his past two games.

Everett broke the game open for good in the bottom of the fifth. Andrew Miller and Rodden hit consecutive doubles to begin the inning, and Jared Sundstrom walked to load the bases. Ben Williamson then hit a ground ball to the shortstop that took a very high bounce, allowing Miller and Rodden to score. Williamson was credited with one RBI on the play. Two batters later, Labrada sliced a line drive down the left field line for an RBI double to score Williamson and increase the Frogs’ lead to 7-1. Labrada raised his average to .366.

From there, Everett’s only other run came in the eighth inning making it 8-5. Following Williamson’s 11th double, Bill Knight hit a sacrifice fly. Williamson’s 11th double currently leads the Northwest League, as does his .337 batting average among qualified players.

Pitching during the game along with Cummings were Bryan Pope, Chris Jefferson, Stefan Raeth, and Troy Taylor. Raeth threw a scoreless eighth inning for his seventh scoreless inning of relief this season and Taylor threw a scoreless ninth to secure his fourth save while striking out two. Taylor has been locked down all year, pitching to a 0.93 ERA while allowing only one run across nine appearances.

From the batter’s box, seven of Everett’s batters hit safely. Rodden and Schreck led the way with two hits each, and Sundstrom, Miller, Labrada, Williamson, and Knight all hit safely once. Knight, Miller, Labrada, and Williamson all doubled while Schreck and Labrada led the team in RBIs with a pair each.
