Birds Take Final Game of Series 12-8

After dropping two games, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans came through for a 12-8 win over the Lynchburg Hillcats on Sunday afternoon. The win improved the Pelicans' record to 7-13 while the Hillcats drop to 11-10.

The Pelicans struck first when Jacob Wetzel hit a three-run home run in the top of the first scoring Leonel Espinoza and Christian Olivio. The Hillcats struck back scoring one in both the second and third innings. Wally Soto, Frank Hernandez, Leonel Espinoza, and Drew Bowser all score in the top of the fourth inning.

The Hillcats got on the board when Wuilfredo Antunez stole home and Esteban Gonzalez scored in the sixth to close the gap 7-5. Jaison Chourio and Angel Genao scored on line drives in the seventh for the Hillcats.

Alfonsin Rosario, Reginald Preciado, and Drew Bowser all hit home runs in the latter half of the game to secure the win for the Birds. The Pelicans collected 12 total hits. The Hillcats scored one the ninth but were unable to rally past the Birds.

Alfredo Romero started on the mound for the Birds allowing two runs off of two hits. Kenton Egbert allowed four runs off of 8 hits, but struck four batters out. Nico Zeglin closed the game for the Birds. Garrett Brown secured his first win for the Pelicans this season.

The Pelicans are on the road again this week as they travel to Salem to play a six-game series in Virginia.
