66ers Outhit Giants, but Fall 4-2

August 17, 2013

San Jose, CA -Despite doubling up the San Jose Giants (71-54, 28-27) in the hit column, the Inland Empire 66ers (63-62, 26-29) were doubled up in the runs column and fell 4-2 Saturday night at Municipal Stadium.

Michael Snyder did his best to give the 66ers every advantage early, registering two-out RBI singles in both the 1st and 3rd to give Inland Empire one run advantages. But the Giants were able to equalize in the bottom half of each of those innings, and took the lead on an RBI single by Ricky Oropesa in the 3rd. The Giants extended their lead to two in the 7th on Chris Lofton's fourth HR of the season.

On the mound Orangel Arenas was strong , holding a quality start until allowing the home run in the 7th, and the bullpen was brilliant. Eric Cendejas struck out the only batter he was asked to face in the 7th, and Daniel Tillman pitching for the second straight night, delivered a 1-2-3 8th including two strikeouts. Tillman has now retired six straight Giants on the series.

Inland Empire will try to salvage a game in San Jose Sunday, with a 5:00 PM game which can be heard on AM 1050 KCAA. The 66ers final home stand of the 2013 season begins Tuesday, August 20th, and includes a Fireworks extravaganza on Friday, August 23rd.
