Operation One Million Minutes is a summer reading program designed by the Burlington Royals and partners to encourage kids around Alamance County to read over the summer. The Royals and Bingo visit schools in April, May, and June to promote the reading program and distribute the information sheets to the children. The information sheets serve as reading logs for the children to show how many minutes they read over the summer and earn great prizes. If a child reads 90 minutes (first base), they get a free game of bowling at Buffaloe Lanes. If they read 180 minutes, they win a free chicken sandwich from Chick-fil-A. If they reach third base, 270 minutes, they get a free arts and crafts package from Painted Grape. Lastly, if they read a "Home Run," the child receives a free ticket to Reader Appreciation Night on August 9th and a free t-shirt. The goal of the reading program is for Alamance County kids to read a collective One Million Minutes in the summer of 2019.
