MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Biscuits (18-16) suffered their worst loss of the season on Friday night at Riverwalk Stadium, falling 9-2 to the Chattanooga Lookouts (19-16) in the season finale.
The Biscuits took an early lead thanks to Nick Ciuffo, who homered on the first pitch he saw in the bottom of the second. Then Michael Russell and Cade Gotta recorded a pair of singles before a throwing error by Felix Jorge made it a 2-0 game. The right-hander would go 4.2 innings, surrendering two runs on nine hits while striking out three in a no-decision.
Jonathan Rodriguez led off the fourth with a single, and then scored on a throwing error by Biscuits third baseman Grant Kay. In the fifth, Edgar Corcino brought across a run on a sac fly off Tyler Brashears to tie the game at two. The righty went five innings surrendering two runs on three hits while striking out two in no-decision.
Chattanooga reliever Ryan Eades (1-0), went 4.1 innings surrendering no runs on two hits and striking out six in a win.
In the sixth inning, Levi Michael was hit-by a-pitch and then Dan Gamache, Dan Rohlfing, and Ryan Walker drew walks off reliever Fernando Baez (0-2) to score Michael. Baez took the loss allowing three runs on three walks in 0.1 innings.
Reliever Edwin Fierro would come in to replace Baez in the sixth and surrender a walk to Nick Gordon and an Engelb Vielma RBI sac fly to center that put the Lookouts up, 5-2.
In the seventh, the Lookouts would get an RBI-single from Lamonte Wade and Gamache would double home a run to put the game out of reach.
Wade added two more insurance runs with a two-run blast over the center-field wall in the ninth, extending his on-base streak to 15 consecutive games. Braxton Lee extended his on-base streak to 21 straight games, tying Nick Gordon for first in the Southern League, after earning a base hit in the first of Friday night's contest.
Riley Unroe's 18-game on-base streak would come to a close after he went 0-4 with a strikeout Friday night and Nick Ciuffo would extend his on-base streak to 15 games with a solo blast in the second.
The Biscuits took three out of the five games to clinch the series against the Lookouts and will begin their next series against the Tennessee Smokies, where right-hander Hunter Wood (2-2) will take the mound against righty Jen-Ho Tseng (3-0) Sunday night at 7:00 PM.
