The Bristol Pirates dropped their third straight game on Monday night in a 10-2 road loss against the Pulaski Yankees.
The Yankees struck for two runs on a double and an RBI groundout in the first inning and never looked back from there. The Pirates' first run of the night came in the top of the fifth inning, when catcher Ethan Goforth hit a two-out double to left to drive in left fielder Chase Murray for his first career RBI. Murray would score again in the top of the eighth as he crossed the plate just before the Yankees completed an inning-ending double play.
Starter Jose Maldonado took the loss for his second start in a row, allowing six runs - five earned - on six hits and three walks with three strikeouts over 2 2/3 innings. Yoelvis Reyes finished the game allowing four runs with two strikeouts over three innings, while Enrique Santana matched his season-high with four strikeouts while allowing just one hit in 2 1/3 innings of relief.
Murray and Goforth each finished 1-for-2 in the loss and reached base twice, with Murray recording a walk and two runs scored while Goforth reached on a hit by pitch and had one RBI. Bissonette was the only other Pirate to reach base twice, ending the night 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and an RBI. A walk by center fielder Daniel Rivero,a single by right fielder Jake Wright and a two-out double in the ninth inning by first baseman Ernny Ordonez would be the only other base runners for Bristol in the game.
The Pirates (12-14) will try to end their three-game skid in the series finale with Pulaski on Tuesday night. Dante Mendoza will get the start for Bristol, as he comes off a career-night in his last start in which he tied his career-high with six strikeouts while allowing no runs on two hits and two walks over four innings.
