Montilla Roughed Up in D-Braves Loss

DANVILLE, Va. - Michael Mateja drove in the Danville Braves only run in their 8-1 loss to the Greeneville Reds on Friday evening at Legion Field.

Mateja smacked an RBI single up the middle to narrow the D-Braves deficit to 4-1. The Chicago area native has driven in two since he moved to Danville on August 10. u1:p
But the D-Braves offense came up short as Greeneville posted three innings of two or more runs. u1:p
In the top of the fifth, Greeneville strung together three consecutive hits to open up a 2-0 lead. Nate Scantlin singled in a run, bringing in Miguel Hernandez. Two batters later, Claudio Finol brought in Nate Scantlin with a single of his own. u1:p
Greeneville tacked on two more in the sixth with an RBI single and bean pitch from the D-Braves Zach Guth. The Reds' Hernandez singled up the middle to move the game to 3-0. Mike Siani widened Greeneville's lead with a bases-loaded hit by pitch, scoring Scantlin.u1:p
The Reds blew the game open with a four spot in the top of the ninth. u1:p
Jose Montilla gave up four earned runs on the evening in 5.2 innings of work. Montilla pitched strong through four scoreless innings, but was tagged for a pair of runs in his fifth and sixth innings. The right hander holds a 6.60 ERA in his last six starts after opening with a 1.53 ERA in his first five starts. u1:p
Carlos Baerga collected two hits with a double. In his last two games, Baerga is 4-of-7. u1:p
Danville will look to avoid the sweep on Saturday at 7 p.m vs. Greeneville. First 500 fans will receive Chipper Jones "Crazy Train" bobbleheads. u1:p
