Tulsa, OK - The Texas League announced that Tulsa Drillers infielder Matt Beaty has been honored as the Player of the Week for the period of July 31 - August 6. He is the eighth Driller to be awarded one of the weekly awards this season, following in the footsteps of Erick Mejia, Jose Miguel Fernandez, Tim Shibuya, Edwin Ríos, Kyle Farmer, Walker Buehler and Scott Barlow who each previously received the honor.
It is the second straight week that a Drillers batter has claimed the Hitter of the Week award after Mejia was honored last week and it was certainly well-deserved.
Beaty started all seven games the Drillers played this past week and recorded a multi-hit performance in every single contest, helping lead Tulsa to a 5-2 record over that span. The streak also extended his personal hitting streak to a Drillers season-high 11 straight games. For the week, Beaty batted .536 with 18 hits and 10 RBI while striking out just once over the seven games.
Beaty enters the new week leading all Texas League hitters with a .330 average while also ranking among the league leaders in doubles, extra-base hits, on-base percentage, and slugging percentage.
Fans wanting to come cheer Beaty and the Drillers on at ONEOK Field can do so starting on Tuesday, August 15 after the club returns to Tulsa for a six-game homestand. Each of the six home games against the Corpus Christi Hooks and the San Antonio Missions will begin at 7:05 PM with gates opening at 6:00 PM.
