Selected by the Tampa Bay Rays in the seventh round of the 2018 MLB Draft out of Cal State Stanislaus... signed with Tampa Bay on June 12, 2018... was previously drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 39th round of the 2014 Draft but did not sign... is an Olympic silver medalist after pitching for Team USA in the Tokyo 2020 summer games (the U.S. squad lost in the gold medal game to host Japan)... made his Minor League debut with the Rays on June 22, 2018 with the Hudson Valley Renegades, throwing two scoreless innings against Vermont... selected as a MiLB.com Rays Organization All-Star in 2019... joined Team USA for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in May of 2021 and, while in Tokyo, was traded by the Rays to the Minnesota Twins on July 22, 2021 in a deal for Nelson Cruz and Calvin Faucher... assigned to Triple-A St. Paul upon joining Twins organization... made two appearances for Team USA in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, starting for the team in its first game... Ryan also started Team USA's semifinals game against South Korea, a 7-2 win... in two games, he struck out eight and allowed two runs on nine hits and a walk over 10 1/3 innings.
