Grand Junction Shuts Out Helena 3-0

August 12, 2017

[Empty Body]

The Grand Junction Rockies took advantage of three walks, an error, a passed ball and wild pitch in the eighth inning and scored three runs, helping them to a 3-0 win over the Helena Brewers Friday night at Kendrick Legion Field.
Javier Guevara walked to start the inning and Alan Trejo singled. After a pitching change, Jeff Moberg bunted both men over, but thanks to a throwing error on Brewers' pitcher Parker Bean, he reached to load the bases, and Shael Mendoza's 1-out walk brought home the game's first run, then Trejo scored on a passed ball and Moberg scored on a wild pitch. Neither team had a hit with a man in scoring position, though the Brewers had their chances, especially after the Rockies took the lead.
In the eighth inning, Hunter Williams allowed a walk and a hit, but got out of trouble thanks to a strike 'em out, pick 'em off double and in the ninth, the Brewers couldn't take advantage of a pair of errors as Tommy Doyle struck out the side for his third save.
Hayden Roberts earned the win with two scoreless innings after Logan Longwith held the Brewers to two hits over five shutout innings.
The Rockies had just six hits, half of them from Pedro Gonzalez who added a walk.
The win improves the Rockies to 6-4 in the second half and 24-24 overall. They have won six-of-seven and are 16-6 against Northern Division opponents.
