Grant Lavigne and Coco Montes finished with three hits as the Grand Junction Rockies beat the Helena Brewers 6-1 Sunday afternoon at Kindrick Legion Field.
Lavigne's three hits came in five at bats with an RBI, while Montes added a walk, an RBI, and two runs scored for his 23rd multi-hit game of the season.
Neither team scored until the fifth inning when the Rockies broke through after a leadoff walk thanks to four hits with two outs. Hunter Stovall's bunt single moved Zach Hall into scoring position, and Montes broke the tie with an RBI single. After Lavigne's RBI single, Niko Decolati doubled home Montes to make it 3-0.
David Fry's seventh inning RBI double got the Brewers on the board, but the Rockies got that run back in the eighth. Cristopher's RBI single drove home Javier Guevara, and Joey Bartosic scored when Will Golsan reached on a fielder's choice, and in the ninth, Decolati made it 6-1 with an RBI single.
That was plenty for Rockies pitching which held the Brewers to five hits. Ryan Feltner started with three hitless. He struck out four and didn't allow a ball to leave the infield for the third straight start. Jared Skolnicki followed him with two scoreless innings, and after Michael Agis surrendered one run in two innings, Aneudy Duarte closed the game out by putting up zeroes in the eighth and ninth innings.
The win improves the Rockies to 14-8 in the second half, 34-26 overall, and they finish the season 4-3 against the Brewers.
Decolati, Golsan and Hall finished with two hits for Grand Junction.
The Rockies will continue their week-long trip through the state of Montana when they begin a 4-game series Monday night in Missoula. The first pitch against the Osprey from Ogren Park Allegiance Field is set for 7:15.
