Spanberger and Golden Make History In 18-8 win

Casey Golden and Chad Spanberger tied the Grand Junction Rockies record for most home runs in a single season Tuesday night at Suplizio Field in an 18-8 win over the Orem Owlz.
Golden's 16th home run of the season came with nobody on and one out in the first with the Rockies trailing 1-0 while Spanberger hit a 2-run shot in the seventh after Golden walked to make it 18-7. They match the mark set by Julian Yan in 2012 and will have 11 games to break it.
The homers were two of four for the Rockies on the night, giving them 91 for the season, eclipsing the team's previous season record by 22 with 11 games to play.
Orem scored two runs in the first, one earned, to take the lead, and after Golden's first inning home run, the Rockies scored three times in the second to take the lead. Jeff Moberg hit a 2-run single. Then with two out, Kyle Cunningham singled and scored on Joey Bartosic's triple. In the third, the Rockies blew the game open, sending 10 men to the plate, scoring seven runs.
The Rockies loaded the bases with one out with the first run scoring on Todd Czinege's sacrifice fly, and with the bases loaded again, Cunningham singled home a pair to make it 8-2. Bartosic followed that with a walk to load the bases, and after another run scored on a passed ball, Brett Stephens hit the first home run of his professional career to make it a nine run game, but the Rockies weren't done there.
Czinege started the bottom of the sixth inning with his ninth home run of the season, and later in the inning, McDowell added an RBI single.
The win improves the Rockies to 16-11 in the second half, 34-31 overall, but after the Ogden Raptors win over Idaho Falls, the Rockies remain three games back of first place with 11 games to play.
