JOHNSON CITY, TN - The Greeneville Reds (5-9) lost their fifth in a row, falling 10-5 to the Johnson City Cardinals (9-4) at TVA Credit Union Ballpark Tuesday night. Johnson City blew the game open with a seven run third inning.
Mateo Gil's two-run home run to left field off RHP Graham Ashcraft (L, 1-2) in the bottom of the first inning got the scoring started.
Raul Juarez was hit by a pitch with one out in the second, and scored on Garrett Wolforth's RBI-double to cut the deficit to 2-1. Torres' two-out RBI infield single in the bottom half helped Johnson City go back up by two.
Cristian Olivo's RBI-single in the third, scoring Allan Cerda, cut Greeneville's deficit back to one.
Johnson City sent 11 to the plate in the third, and scored seven times. Zach Jackson walked, and Todd Lott singled to leadoff the inning, and both scored on Terry Fuller's two-run double. After Liam Sabino singled, Fuller scored on Soler's RBI-double. Ben Baird walked to load the bases. The next batter, Diomedes Del Rio hit a two-run single to give the Cardinals an 8-2 lead, and force Greeneville to go to the bullpen.
Torres hit a two-run single off RHP Randy Wynne to give Johnson City a 10-2 lead in the third. Wynne ended up pitching four scoreless innings in relief, allowing four hits while striking out two.
Justin Gomez doubled to leadoff the top of the fourth, and scored on Danielito Remy's two-out RBI-single. In the seventh, Olivo scored on Juarez's two-run home run to left field off RHP Wilfredo Pereira to round out the scoring.
RHP Julio Puello (W, 1-1) earned the win. He allowed three runs on eight hits and two walks in five innings, while striking out five. Ashcraft took the loss, his second. He allowed ten runs on ten hits and two walks in two innings. He also struck out four.
RHP Dan Serreino and LHP Jose Zorilla each pitched a scoreless inning in relief for Greeneville. Wolforth finished the night 3-for-4, with an RBI, his first three-hit game as a professional. Remy, Olivo, and Gomez all finished with two hits.
Greeneville will look to snap their five game slide with JC Keys (1-1, 4.91) on the mound Wednesday night at TVA Credit Union Ballpark in Johnson City. RHP Dalton Roach (0-0, 9.35) will start for the Cardinals, with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 PM.
