Rancho Cucamonga, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino snapped a five-game losing streak with a ten-inning 1-0 win over Rancho Cucamonga on Thursday night. The game featured incredible pitching by both squads as the 66ers pushed across an unearned run in the top of the tenth courtesy of a Quakes throwing error for the lone tally of the contest. The pitching staffs combined to allow no earned runs over 20.0 innings of mound work.
Inland Empire starter Kyle Bradish gave up seven hits over 5.0 IP for the Sixers but walked just one batter while matching a career-high with nine Ks. In 9.0 innings versus Rancho Cucamonga this year, the New Mexico State product has struck out 18 Quakes. Leo Crawford tossed five shutout frames for Rancho Cucamonga (21-13). Jorge Tavarez came in for the 66ers in the sixth with no outs and runners at first and second and escaped trouble. He fanned three batters in two frames. For the second time in two weeks the teams were scoreless through nine innings. Zane Gurwitz opened the tenth as the automatic runner at second base for Inland Empire (15-19). With one out Michael Stefanic topped a slow chopper to short off Ryan Mosely (1-2) advancing Gurwitz to third base. SS Jeter Downs threw the ball away and Gurwitz came home on the throwing error for a 1-0 advantage. Isaac Mattson, who was perfect through his first two innings of relief, came back out for a perfect tenth to solidify the win and improve to 3-0 on the year. Mattson fanned three batters and lowered his season ERA to 0.89. 66ers pitchers combined to fan 15 batters and walk just one.
