Lancaster, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino opened a three-game set and fell 9-1 to a white-hot Lancaster JetHawks ballclub. After opening the year 0-6, the JetHawks won their sixth consecutive game and have gotten back to .500.
Inland Empire (5-7) fell behind 3-0 in the first as Cooper Criswell (0-1) allowed the first five batters to reach safely. All three outs were recorded on the bases, the big hit in the frame was Ryan Vilade's two-run single. Ramon Marcelino opened the second with solo-shot to right-center and a 4-0 advantage. Lancaster tacked on a run in the third on Austin Bernard's RBI single. It was 7-0 by the seventh when Inland Empire got on the board on Alvaro Rubalcaba's solo homer to left, his first of the season. The JetHawks added back-to-back homers in the seventh from Marcelino and Bernard making it 9-1. Marcelino added a double and was hit by a pitch to go along with his two dingers, he has homered four times this year. Matt Hearn and Carlos Herrera combined each tallied four hits for Lancaster and combined to go 8-for-10 at the top of the order. Kevin Williams Jr. Jr. notched two doubles for the Sixers. Inland Empire in 0-for-its-last-25 with runners in scoring position dating back to Saturday.
