San Bernardino, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino got a big hit from Jared Walsh in the first inning and another in ninth to deliver with a 3-2 walk-off win in over the Stockton Ports on Sunday. Walsh tattooed at two-run homer (9th) with one out in the first inning and Inland Empire (18-19) then got a walk to Brandon Sandoval the following batter…the Sixers did not have another baserunner until their game-winning charge in the ninth as Ports starter Parker Dunshee set down 22 batters in a row in a no-decision that saw him strikeout a career-high 11 batters.
The Ports scored a run in the second against Inland Empire starter Jason Alexander on Edwin Diaz's RBI single. They tied the game on Dairon Blanco's RBI single in the sixth scoring Nate Mondou (who finished the game with three hits). Alexander was great in six frames for the Sixers getting a no-decision allowing just the two runs on six hits with no walks and eight Ks. The righty from Windsor, CA had his consecutive scoreless innings streak snapped at 15 during the game but has allowed just two earned runs in his last 20 IP. Tyler Stevens (2-2) was superb out of the pen for Inland Empire tossing three frames and allowing just an infield hit; he struck out the side in order in the seventh and faced the minimum amount of batters through three innings. After a perfect bottom of the eighth, Stockton reliever Sam Sheehan (1-2) hit Julian Leon with a pitch to open the ninth, snapping the 22-in-a-row stretch. Pinch runner DJ Jenkins was driven to third base on Jahmai Jones' sharp single, IE's first base-hit since Walsh's homer in the first. With runners at first and third Walsh delivered again with the game-winning RBI single to secure the club's first walk-off win of the year. Stockton DH Jonah Heim went 0-for-4 (22-15) to end his Cal League best hit-streak at 19-games. Luis Rengifo tacked on another hit to run his streak to 11-games for Inland Empire.
The series concludes Monday at 3:00 pm. The contest can be heard live at 66ers.com.
