San Bernardino, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino mustered just a lone run in the sixth inning on Tuesday at San Manuel Stadium as the San Jose Giants evened a three-game set at a game apiece with an 8-1 win. San Jose starter DJ Myers was strong as the righty improved to 5-3 on the season after allowing just one run over six innings.
The Giants scored in the second when Gio Brusa tagged a solo homer, his 18th, to open the frame against Sixers' starter Erik Manoah Jr. (2-9). Later in the frame Chris Corbett dumped a two-run double into left field for a 3-0 lead. Sandro Fabian then lashed a solo homer (9) in the fifth against Manoah who allowed four runs on three hits with three walks and six Ks. Myers held the 66ers down until the sixth when Jordan Zimmerman drilled a RBI double to left in his first game since July 24th after being activated from the DL on Monday. It was the lone run off Myers (5-3) who gave up five total hits with one walk, four Ks and matched a season-best 6.0 IP. Zane Gurwitz had Inland Empire's (62-60, 29-23) lone multi-hit game as he notched a double and a single. Brendon Sanger tripled for the 66ers while DJ Jenkins stole his seventh base. Brusa had a pair of hits for the Giants (52-70, 18-34) while Bryce Johnson took three walks and stole his 25th base of the season. While the Sixers did out-hit San Jose, Inland Empire pitching walked five and hit three batters on the night.
