Jupiter Falls to Tampa 14-3 on Friday Night

JUPITER, FL – The Jupiter Hammerheads (23-33; 60-62) fell to the Tampa Tarpons (38-18; 73-49) by a final score of 14-3 on Friday night at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. Tampa clinched the FSL West 2^nd Half Division Title and a playoff berth with the win and also won the series over Jupiter.

After two scoreless innings, the Tarpons got on the scoreboard in the top of the third inning against Jupiter starting pitcher Elier Morillo (L, 5-2). Tampa loaded the bases with no outs and Bear Harrison drove in two runners on a two-RBI double to take the early lead. Two batters later, Tyce Armstrong also hit a two-RBI double as the Tarpons took a 4-0 lead.

Morillo finished his start with three innings pitched and allowed four runs, three earned runs, three hits, a season-high five walks, and struck out seven batters. Morillo became the third Hammerhead pitcher to reach 100 strikeouts this season along with Dameivi Tineo and Manuel Genao did so earlier this season.

Samuel Carpio came into the game to pitch the top of the fourth inning for Jupiter. Carpio issued two walks with one out and Paul Contreras hit a two-RBI single. Later, with two outs and a runner at third base, a throwing error from Jacob Lombard allowed an additional run to score to give Tampa a 7-0 lead.

After no score in the fifth inning, Ian Medina went back out to pitch the top of the sixth inning. With two outs and a runner at second base, Tyce Armstrong hit a two-run home run to expand the Tampa lead to 9-0. Tampa piled on in the top of the seventh inning as 11 batters came to the plate and five runs scored to give the Tarpons a 14-0 lead.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, Jupiter scored their first and only runs of the game. After PJ Morlando lined a double into left field, Jacob Lombard followed with an RBI double down the left field line. Later in the frame, Luis Cova blasted a two-RBI double to left-center to prevent the shutout and make it 14-3. The Hammerheads could not get out of the early hole and ultimately fell by the final score of 14-3 on Friday night.
