The 411 From Exit 407

November 26, 2013

Nathan Horn, the staff writer for the Tennessee Smokies, recently sat down with Co-Owner of the Smokies Jenny Boyd, as well as, Lana Kirchhofer, the wife of Smokies President Doug Kirchhofer, and asked them nine Thanksgiving themed questions. This is the first installment of a series, where we pull back the curtain, and allow our fans to get to know the Smokies front office leadership on a more personal level. Everyone at the Smokies is very thankful for all of our fans, and on behalf of us all, we'd like to wish you a safe and wonderful Thanksgiving!

1.) Where will you be celebrating Thanksgiving?

Jenny - We spend our Thanksgiving with the family at the Dancing Bear Lodge in Townsend. However, the lodge burned a couple of weeks ago, so we are now planning on having it at my mother-in-law's cabin in Townsend. This is on the top of a mountain, so weather permitting, we'll be there!

Lana - In Knoxville, at our daughter's house.

2.)What is your favorite Thanksgiving food?

Jenny - My favorite Thanksgiving food is garlic cheese grits. Randy's family never grew up eating grits, so I'm in the minority, which makes me sad. I also like corn pudding.

Lana - Hands down, it is old fashioned bread stuffing.

3.)Yams or Sweet Potatoes?

Jenny - Sweet Potatoes

Lana - Sweet Potatoes.

4.)What are you most thankful for?

Jenny - Family and Good Health

Lana - Not to sound corny, but I am most thankful for my husband and family. I am also grateful every day for our health and the blessing of living in this great country even with   its problems and dysfunction.

5.)What is your favorite Thanksgiving memory?

Jenny - I have a couple, but when I think of Thanksgiving, I think of being at my great aunt and uncle's house, and after dinner, my cousin and I were jumping on a bed and broke it. We were never allowed to even sit on the beds - uh-oh.

Lana - One year when our kids were little, we were living near Atlanta and I was really homesick and missing my parents and sisters. We drove to Illinois, knocked on my parent's door on Thanksgiving morning and surprised my family.

6.)Turkey or Ham?

Jenny - Ham!

Lana - Totally turkey!

7.) After dinner will Randy/Doug will...

                A. Take a nap

                B. Watch Football

                C. Exercise

                D. Go for seconds

Jenny - Randy will be taking a nap.

Lana - We will have already exercised, there will be too many little people around for a nap, and I can assure you that Doug will have already had seconds....so he will try to watch some football while playing a rousing game of UNO.

8.)What is your favorite Thanksgiving activity?

Jenny - Visiting with family.

Lana - Playing games after the kitchen is cleaned up and leftovers put away.

9.)What item will you be purchasing from the Smokies on-line store on Black Friday?

Jenny - An awesome item I'm sure!!

Lana - Robby already has my order (for the new Smokies half zip pullover), so I don't plan to order on Friday unless I can get a great deal!!
