Binick lifts Orioles

June 20, 2007
Kraig Binick singled and scored the winning run on a bases-loaded walk as host Bluefield edged Bristol, 4-3, in the opener of Wednesday's doubleheader.

With one out in the eighth inning, Binick beat out a ground ball to shortstop before Sox reliever Wilmer Rojas (0-1) walked Richard Oleo. Malcolm Crowley was hit by a pitch before Rojas walked Jacob Julius.

Binick also hit his first homer with one out in the sixth, a solo shot that gave the Orioles (2-0) a 3-2 lead.

Bluefield reliever Sean Gleason (1-0) pitched around a hit in a scoreless eighth to notch the win. Starter Stephen Procner yielded one unearned run on three hits and one walk with a strikeout over five innings.

Rojas (0-1) allowed one run on two hits while striking out three and walking two in 1 1/3 innings. Jorge Andrade had two hits and Jose Martinez delivered an RBI single in the seventh for the Sox (0-2). --Shane Figueroa/MLB.conm
