JACKSON, TENN. (November 22, 2010) - Dustin Ackley's Peoria Javelina's fell to a Bryce Harper led Phoenix Desert Dogs team on Saturday 3-2, but Ackley left his mark on the league filled with top prospects. Ackley received MVP honors while hitting .424 for the Javelinas. Ackley also led the AFL in on-base percentage (.581), slugging (.758), OPS (1.338) and runs scored (28), also while being a perfect 5-for-5 in stolen-base attempts.

"That's an awesome feeling," Ackley said of receiving the award before Saturday's championship game. "In April, I didn't think I could hit any more. As far as I've come, with hitting and defense, it's really special. I watched Grant Desme win it last year, the MVP, and he had put up great numbers during the season and in the Fall League. It's really special to take it in after him," Ackley told MiLB.com

Ackley began his professional career with the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx before being promoted to Triple-A Tacoma in July. Ackley hit .263 with 21 doubles, two homeruns and 28 RBI for the Jaxx in 82 games in 2010. Ackley's .389 on-base percentage was in the top-five in the Southern League before his promotion.

"I feel really good," said Ackley, who helped the Peoria Javelinas make it to their second straight title game. "My body definitely has been feeling tired lately after a long season, but I feel really good where I'm at defensively and hitting wise. I feel I've come a long way with second base, with double plays and ground balls. I think it was a big help to come out here."

Ackley was selected by the Seattle Mariners out of the University of North Carolina in the first round (No. 2 overall) of the June 2009 First-Year Player Draft.

The Jackson Generals open the 2011 season on Thursday, April 7th when the Generals visit the Mississippi Braves. The home opener is slated for Wednesday, April 13th against the defending Southern League Champion Jacksonville Suns. Season tickets, which include a reserved seat to the All-Star Game, are currently on sale by calling Pringles Park office, Monday-Friday, 9 am-5 pm at 731-988-5299.
