Drury Launches Two Homers in D-Braves Win
Elizabethton, TN- Brandon Drury hit two homeruns and Chase Larsson added one of his own in an 8-1 win on Thursday night. The Danville Braves extended their winning streak to three games in game one of three against the Elizabethton Twins.
The Braves jumped all over starter, Todd Van Steensel, in the top of the first on Thursday night. Brandon Drury, who was just the third batter of the game, hit his first of two homeruns of the night to left field to give the D-Braves a 2-0 lead. Later in the inning, with runners at the corners and one out, Chase Larsson grounded into a fielder's choice that would score Billy Beckwith from third. Sam Munson's fifth double of the year followed allowing Larsson to score from first and giving the Braves a 4-0 lead.
In the third, Danville tacked on three more insurance runs. Drury led off the inning with his sixth homerun of the season, his second of the night, and his second in as many at-bats. With the score 5-0 now and a runner on first, Chase Larsson hit his fourth homerun of the night. It was also Larsson's third homerun in a week after hitting two in a game last Friday against the Burlington Royals. Larsson's two run homer put the Braves ahead, 7-0.
Danville starter, Greg Ross, was nothing short of great on Thursday night. The only run he gave up was in the fourth on a Eddie Rosario homerun. Rosario's homerun was his 11th of the season; good for second best in the Appalachian league. Ross pitched six innings in his winning efforts. He allowed the one run on six hits while striking out seven and not allowing a single base on balls. The win was Ross's fourth of the year and second as a starter.
The D-Braves added one more run in the seventh to give them a seven run, 8-1 lead. Dan Winnie came in an pitched two innings of relief for Danville. He allowed one walk while striking out two. Dan Jurik pitched the bottom of the ninth inning for Danville.
Todd Van Steensel (3-2) lasted just two and two-thirds innings. It was his worst start of the season as well as his shortest. He allowed seven earned runs on six hits including three homers.
Danville will try to continue their winning ways tomorrow night. If they win it will be their fourth win in a row which will be a season-high. Their next home game will be on August 6 when the Bristol White Sox come to town.
