Perfect game for ex-Zephyr Humber

Humber, a Zephyr in 2007, tosses 21st perfect game in MLB
April 21, 2012
Phil Humber, a member of the New Orleans Zephyrs in 2007, pitched a perfect game for the Chicago White Sox on Saturday afternoon, retiring all 27 batters he faced in a 4-0 win over the Seattle Mariners at Safeco Field.

The 29-year-old was a member of the Zephyrs in 2007, going 11-9 with a 4.27 ERA in 25 starts. That year, he carried a no-hitter into the ninth inning of an August 22 start against the Iowa Cubs at Zephyr Field, losing the no-hit bid on a pinch-hit single by John Nelson with one out.

On Saturday, Humber completed not only his no-hitter, but the 21st perfect game in Major League history. Humber struck out nine, including the final batter of the game, Brendan Ryan, on a ball in the dirt that required catcher A.J. Pierzynski to throw to first baseman Paul Konerko for the out.

It was the third perfect game in Chicago White Sox history, joining Mark Buerhle in 2009 and Charles Robertson in 1922.
