MiLB umpire positions offered to 31
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Professional Baseball Umpire Corp (PBUC™), a Minor League Baseball™ wholly owned subsidiary, announced Wednesday that it extended offers of employment to 31 of the 60 candidates that attended its recently completed Evaluation Course held at Vero Beach Sports Village™ in Vero Beach, Fla. Fourteen others were recommended for hire to the Coastal Plain League, a collegiate summer league, with which PBUC has a working agreement. These umpires will continue to hone their skills while waiting for the call to work Minor League Baseball games.
The 60 candidates who attended the Evaluation Course were selected from graduates of The Umpire School™ and the Wendelstedt Umpire School, two professional umpire training schools.
PBUC oversees the training and employment of umpires in the Minor League Baseball system throughout the United States and Canada.
"We hire throughout the season and on average place 40 new umpires in the Short Season-A™ and Rookie® classifications annually," PBUC Executive Director Justin Klemm said. "With 36 Triple-A® umpires working Major League Baseball Spring Training games and three new full time hires being added to the MLB staff from our ranks, it is vitally important we continue to lead in all areas of training, development and evaluation. By doing so, we're able to give our 16 domestic leagues the most well-rounded umpires, who are also attractive candidates for Major League Baseball."
