Mainer, Mike MacDonald Promoted to Triple-A
MacDonald, 30, appeared in ten games (nine starts) with the Sea Dogs posting a 3-2 record with a 4.62 ERA. In his Hadlock Field debut as a Sea Dog, he fired seven shutout innings to earn his first win as a member of the Sea Dogs. In his latest outing of the 2012 season on August 28th, he worked seven shutout innings in relief to earn the win against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats.
In 19 seasons of play in Portland, MacDonald is the first Maine native player to don the Portland Sea Dogs uniform. The only other Maine native to wear the Sea Dogs uniform was Sea Dogs hitting coach Kenny Joyce in 1996. MacDonald signed with the Boston Red Sox on July 8th and was assigned to the Sea Dogs. He started the 2012 campaign pitching in the Independent Leagues for the Somerset Patriots.
The former University of Maine student athlete was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 15th round of the 2004 First-Year Player Draft. He has nine seasons of minor league baseball experience with the Red Sox, Blue Jays, Angels, and Giants' organizations.
