Reno's Abe tabbed PCL's Trainer of the Year

ROUND ROCK, Texas - Reno Aces' Athletic Trainer Masa Abe has been selected by the Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society (PBATS) as the 2017 Pacific Coast League Trainer of the Year. Abe is the first Reno trainer to be honored with this award.

ROUND ROCK, Texas - Reno Aces' Athletic Trainer Masa Abe has been selected by the Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society (PBATS) as the 2017 Pacific Coast League Trainer of the Year. Abe is the first Reno trainer to be honored with this award.

Through a selection by their peers, the award is annually given to one member of each of the 16 Leagues in Minor League Baseball, including the Dominican Summer League. Abe is now eligible for the Minor League Athletic Trainer of the Year award, which is voted upon by full membership of the PBATS and announced in Orlando, Florida at 2017 Baseball Winter Meetings.
During the season, Abe has been responsible for the care of over 60 different players, including four on Major League Baseball rehabilitation assignments. In his second season with Reno, Abe has been with Arizona's medical staff since he began his professional baseball career in 2011 with the Rookie-level Arizona League Diamondbacks. The 39-year-old ascended through Arizona's system from there, making stops at Missoula (2012), Visalia (2013) and Mobile (2014-15).
A native of Aiehi, Japan, Abe graduated from the Toyota National of College of Tech High School in Toyota, Japan. He came to the United States and attended Northern Colorado, earning an undergraduate degree in athletic training in 2007. Abe went on to earn a master's degree in biomechanics from Louisiana State University. Before joining the Diamondbacks, he was a graduate assistant trainer at the University of Arkansas.
