Triple-A roundup: Lannan lights out

The pitchers' duel of the night in the International League took place in Charlotte as Syracuse's John Lannan (9-11) tossed a complete-game eight-hitter with a season-high 10 strikeouts to lead the Chiefs to a 2-0 victory. The Major League veteran became the first Syracuse pitcher to record two shutouts in a season.

He was matched on the mound by Charles Leesman (12-10), whose career-high 11 K's were the most by a Knights pitcher this year. The White Sox's No. 10 prospect allowed two runs on four hits in seven innings of work, but suffered the loss.

A seven-inning three-hit effort by John Maine (8-5) sewed up the IL North title for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre as the Yankees shut out Lehigh Valley, 5-0. Eduardo Nunez, Ronnier Mustelier, Austin Romine and Cole Garner homered for the Baby Bombers.

Toledo's Audy Ciriaco smacked a walk-off home run in the ninth to give the Mud Hens a 5-4 win over Indianapolis. The solo shot capped a 3-for-4 night for Ciriaco. Indians shortstop Brock Holt also finished with three hits for the fourth consecutive game.

Columbus' David Huff (7-6) scattered seven hits over 7 2/3 innings in a 2-0 win over Louisville. Cord Phelps and Jared Goedert drove in the two Clippers runs with RBI singles in the fifth.

Norfolk scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to edge Durham, 3-1. L.J. Hoes came home on a Luis Exposito RBI single with two outs to give the Tides the lead. Jason Berken (5-6) earned the win for Norfolk, allowing a run on seven hits over seven frames.

Pawtucket pulled out a pair of one-run wins in a doubleheader with Gwinnett. Billy Buckner (8-6) pitched seven scoreless innings in a 1-0 win in Game 1, and the PawSox plated two runs on a throwing error by Braves pitcher Julio Teheran en route to a 3-2 victory in the nightcap. Teheran (7-9), the Minors' No. 1 prospect, took the loss, allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits in 6 1/3 innings.

In the Pacific Coast League, Adron Chambers went 4-for-6 with a double and four RBIs and Steven Hill added a three-run homer to power Memphis past Omaha, 12-4. Brock Peterson doubled and drove in two for the Redbirds. No. 2 Royals prospect Wil Myers hit a solo homer, his 23rd for the Storm Chasers.

Brad Snyder hit a two-run single in the bottom of the eighth to help Oklahoma City edge Albuquerque, 3-1. Snyder finished 2-for-4 with a double for the RedHawks. No. 10 Astros prospect Brett Oberholtzer did not factor in to the decision after giving up a run on seven hits without any walks and six strikeouts over 7 1/3 innings. No. 10 Dodgers prospect Tim Federowicz went 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Isotopes.

Claudio Vargas (7-1) held Iowa to a run on seven hits and three walks while fanning six over 5 2/3 innings as Nashville took home a 6-1 victory. No. 8 Brewers prospect Logan Schafer also homered for the Sounds. Adrian Cardenas doubled in the Cubs' lone run.

Brandon Snyder hit a three-run homer and Joey Butler and Yangervis Solarte added solo shots as Round Rock beat New Orleans, 6-3. No. 2 Rangers prospect Martin Perez surrendered three runs on eight hits and two walks with three strikeouts over six innings without factoring into the decision for the Express. Brett Hayes homered for the Zephyrs.

Travis Banwart (9-5) allowed two runs on seven hits and a walk with a strikeout over six frames to lead Sacramento over Colorado Springs, 3-2. No. 5 A's prospect Grant Green and Daric Barton drove in runs for the River Cats. No. 14 Rockies prospect Charlie Culberson doubled and plated two runs for the Sky Sox.

Andy Parrino doubled twice and picked up two RBIs and Bear Bay (4-9) limited Salt Lake to a run on five hits and a walk with four strikeouts over seven innings to lead Tucson in a 3-1 win. No. 19 Angels prospect Efren Navarro went 3-for-4 with a double and Peter Bourjos tripled and scored a run while making a rehab assignment for the Bees.

Tyler Kuhn went yard and Brent Clevlen doubled twice and drove in two runs as Reno topped Fresno, 5-4. No. 6 Arizona prospect A.J. Pollock also doubled twice, plating a run and scoring for the Aces. Todd Linden hit a two-run shot for the Grizzlies.

No. 3 Mariners prospect Nick Franklin went 3-for-5 with a double and two runs scored and Luis Antonio Jimenez doubled and plated three runs to lead Tacoma over Las Vegas, 8-4. Mike Wilson and Casper Wells also homered for the Rainiers. Yan Gomes and Kevin Howard went deep for the 51s.
