Twins' Gallant suspended 50 games

Cedar Rapids right-hander tests positive for an Amphetamine
September 20, 2013

Twins right-hander Dallas Gallant will miss the first 50 games of the 2014 season after testing positive for a banned substance.

The Office of the Commissioner of Baseball announced Friday that Gallant, a reliever with Class A Cedar Rapids, received a 50-game suspension without pay after testing positive for an amphetamine in violation of the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program. The suspension of Gallant will be effective at the start of the 2014 season.

Gallant, 24, was Minnesota's 23rd-round pick in the 2010 Draft out of Sam Houston State University. He went 3-1 with a 5.47 ERA and 36 strikeouts over 26 1/3 innings over 22 reliever appearances between Cedar Rapids and Rookie-level Elizabethton. He split the 2012 season between the E-Twins and Class A Beloit after debuting in the Appalachian League in 2010.

Gallant is the 53rd player to be suspended by Major League Baseball for a violation of the Minor League drug program in 2013.
