KODAK, Ten. - After a rain delay that lasted over an hour, the Biscuits (47-28) lost their series finale against the Tennessee Smokies (35-39), 6-2, on Monday night at Smokies Stadium.
Sam McWilliams (5-3), who had allowed just one run over his last 27 innings, got the start for Montgomery, and started off well enough, keeping the Smokies off the board through the first two innings.
On the other side, Cory Abbott (5-3) struck out five of the first six batters he faced before serving up a massive home run to right field off the bat of Biscuits designated hitter Brett Sullivan that made it a 1-0 game.
Tennessee would rally in the third, however, and took the lead for good on a Roberto Caro two-run single. The Smokies would add to their 2-1 lead with a Christian Donahue RBI-single in the fourth, as well as a Connor Myers RBI-triple in the same inning.
Jhonleider Salinas made his Double-A debut for the Biscuits, and impressed by striking out the side in the sixth. The right-hander then allowed a two-run homer to P.J. Higgins in the seventh, and while the Biscuits made it interesting in the ninth with an RBI-single from Jermaine Palacios, the comeback was not enough.
The Biscuits will now head back to Montgomery and open up a five-game series against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp on Tuesday night when an opener and Josh Fleming (5-3) take on Jorge Guzman (3-7) at 6:35 PM CT.
The series will also include Military Wednesday on June 26; Red Tails Night featuring a T-Shirt Giveaway on Thursday, June 27; Family Faith Night and MAX Fireworks on Friday, June 28; and Superhero Night and MAX Fireworks on Saturday, June 29.
