JACKSON, Ten. - The Biscuits (69-54) had an early lead, lost it, and then fought back and ultimately stole a 7-6 victory in 10 innings against Jackson Generals (64-58) on Thursday night at The Ballpark at Jackson. The Biscuits have now won nine of their last 11 games.
Mike Brosseau continued his red-hot August with an RBI-single in the first off Jackson starter Justin Donatella to put the Biscuits up 1-0, before Rudy Flores's sac fly off Montgomery opener Spencer Jones knotted things up in the bottom half.
Blake Bivens then came on for Jones in the second, and was provided a two-run lead in the fourth when Jesús Sánchez hit an RBI-groundout and Brett Sullivan an RBI-single off Donatella to make it a 3-1 game. Bivens would allow an RBI-single to Dominic Miroglio in the fourth, and then, after retiring the first two batters of the sixth, surrendered a walk and a single before Miroglio tagged him again for a two-out, two-run double to straightaway center that put Jackson ahead, 4-3. Jose Vinico then hit a wall-scraping two-run home run over the green monster in left to extend that lead to 6-3 in the next at-bat.
The Biscuits would then begin to chip away, however, scoring twice in the seventh off lefty reliever Kirby Bellow on a David Rodríguez RBI-single, and a 4-6-3 double play off the bat of Lucius Fox. Nick Solak clubbed his 16th home run of the season off Bud Jeter to lead off the eighth, and the game then shifted into extra innings when both teams were held scoreless in the ninth.
Nathan Lukes, who is one of the better bunters on the Biscuits roster, led things off in the 10th for the Butter and Blue, but instead of bunting, the center fielder fouled off a few pitches and then rolled an RBI-single into right-center field off Yoan López (2-6) that scored Fox from second and put a cherry on top of the Montgomery comeback.
Yoel Espinal (3-2), who came on for Curtis Taylor in the eighth, was sensational, striking out a pair (four on the night) in the bottom half of the 10th before walking Jason Morozowski and then inducing a broken bat groundout from Domingo Leyba to end the game.
The Biscuits remain in first place in the Second Half North Division by six games with 17 to play, and will try to take the series from the Generals in Game 4 on Friday when Benton Moss (6-4) brings his consecutive-scoreless inning streak of 19.1 in against the Arizona Diamondbacks number one prospect Jon Duplantier (4-1) at 6:05 PM CT.
The Biscuits return home on Sunday, August 19 for a 10-game homestand to close out the regular season.
