Biscuits Make History, Beat Shrimp, 9-4

JACKSONVILLE, Flo. - David Rodriguez bopped a pair of RBI-triples and Paul Campbell (1-0) was terrific in his Double-A debut, as the Biscuits (39-24) made history on Monday night and took down the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, 9-4, at the Baseball Grounds. The win was the Biscuits 39th of the season, the most in a First Half in team history.

Campbell, the 23-year-old Malden, MA native, looked sharp early, firing in three hitless innings of shutout ball to begin his Biscuit career. Montgomery capitalized on a throwing error by Shrimp shortstop Bryson Brigman in the top of the third, when Brett Sullivan smoked an RBI-double off Robert Dugger (6-6) to open the scoring. A few batters later, Tristan Gray launched his fourth home run of the season, a two-run blast into the bleachers in right to make it 3-0.

In the fourth, David Rodriguez clobbered his first of two RBI-triples, with the other coming in the sixth, and Jermaine Palacios knocked in the Biscuits fifth run on an RBI-groundout. Campbell would finish the night with a quality start and the victory, tossing six innings, and allowing three runs on six hits with no walks and four strikeouts.

After Rodriguez's second RBI-triple in the sixth, Palacios added his second RBI with a single, and then brought home two more runs courtesy of an error by Shrimp third baseman Joe Dunand in the eighth. The Biscuits turned it over to the bullpen in the seventh, where Ivan Pelaez allowed one unearned run. Tyler Zombro then threw a scoreless eighth, and Dalton Moats a scoreless ninth.

With the win, the Biscuits surpassed the 2010 Butter and Blue squad that finished 38-30, who had previous best First Half record prior to this season. With losses by both Chattanooga and Jackson, the Biscuits are now up by 4.5 games in first place with seven games to go before the All-Star break.

Kevin Padlo went 0-for-5 in the win and saw his Southern League-leading 24-game on-base streak come to an end, but the Biscuits will try to close out the series with a win in the finale on Tuesday morning when Josh Fleming (5-3) takes on Sixto Sanchez (1-2) at 11:05 AM CT.

The Biscuits will return to Riverwalk Stadium for their final series of the first half in a crucial showdown against the third-place Chattanooga Lookouts on Military Wednesday, June 12. The rest of the series will feature Game Show Night and a T-Shirt Giveaway on Thursday, June 13; Capital City Night on Friday, June 14; Montgomery Rebels Throwback Night featuring a Jersey Auction on Saturday, June 15 (a doubleheader); and A Father's Day Tie Giveaway on Sunday, June 16.
