MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- The Biscuits (65-53) beat the Birmingham Barons (56-61), 8-1, on Wrestling Night at Riverwalk Stadium. Mike Brosseau and David Rodríguez led the way with a home run apiece.
Montgomery's Lucius Fox set the tone for the entire contest. The Biscuits' shortstop led off with a single in the first inning. Although Fox was caught stealing shortly after, the base knock affected Barons' starting pitcher Kodi Medeiros (7-7) as he issued a free pass to Nick Solak. Mike Brosseau then made Medeiros pay with his eleventh home run of the season.
With a 2-0 lead, Montgomery opener Curtis Taylor kept Birmingham silent before being relieved by Benton Moss (6-4) in the third. Moss continued the shutout, allowing just a sole hit through the fifth frame.
As the Barons scuffled, the Biscuits belted Medeiros. Danny De La Calle doubled the lead with a two-run single in the fourth before a David Rodriguez three-run home run sharpened the edge to 7-0.
For good measures, Montgomery added another score in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Nick Solak.
Birmingham, after Moss hurled six scoreless innings, scraped a single run across thanks to a balk by Travis Ott in the ninth.
Montgomery concludes a five-game homestand against Birmingham on Bark in the Park and Kids Day, including a Kids Baseball Giveaway, on Sunday at 5:05 p.m. The Biscuits have yet to announce a starter while the Barons are projected to offer Bernardo Flores (2-3).
