JACKSON, Ten. - The Biscuits (50-33) outhit the Jackson Generals (44-39), 5-2, but fell behind early and ultimately lost game three of their four-game set, 3-2, on Tuesday night at The Ballpark at Jackson.
Paul Campbell (3-1) made his fifth Double-A start, but ran into trouble in the first inning, serving up a lead-off single to Ben DeLuzio. Two walks, a fielder's choice, and a flyout later brought Arizona Diamondbacks top prospect Jazz Chisolm to the plate, and the Bahamian shortstop's three-run double off the wall in left emptied the bases and gave the Generals all the runs they would need. DeLuzio and Chisolm's hits were the only ones for Jackson all night.
Matt Peacock (4-3) started on the other side for the Generals and worked at a speedy tempo throughout the evening. The Biscuits would finally crack the right-hander thanks to a Jesús Sánchez RBI-groundout in the fourth that made it 3-1. Peacock would go seven innings, allowing just the one unearned run.
Campbell would depart after the fifth, and then Brian Shaffer came on to throw two scoreless innings in the sixth and seventh before Jhonleider Salinas did the same in the eighth. Cameron Gann came on for Peacock and worked a scoreless eighth, but in the ninth, served up a seismic home run to right off the bat of Tristan Gray that made it a one-run game. Gann then settled down and struck out Lucius Fox and David Rodríguez to end the game.
The Biscuits will now look to avoid losing back-to-back series for the first time this season in Wednesday's series finale with Kenny Rosenberg (6-1) slated to go against Joel Payamps (2-3) at 6:05 PM CT.
The Biscuits will return to Riverwalk Stadium for the start of a six-game series against the Tennessee Smokies on July 4 for an Independence Day Celebration featuring a Tank Top Giveaway presented by Alfa Insurance and MAX Fireworks.
The six-game homestand will also feature a Bicentennial Celebration featuring a Jersey Auction and MAX Fireworks on Friday, July 5; Beach Night and MAX Fireworks on Saturday, July 6; Lil' Crumbs Dress Like a Player Socks Giveaway on Sunday, July 7; and Camp Day on Tuesday, July 9.
