PEARL, Mis. - The Biscuits (9-7) squandered a three-run lead in extra innings and fell in heartbreaking fashion, 7-6 in 10 innings, to the Mississippi Braves (8-7) on Easter Sunday at Trustmark Park.
The game was close almost the entire way, with the Biscuits getting three solo home runs-one from Tristan Gray and two from Josh Lowe-between the second and sixth, with the center fielder's second breaking a 2-2 tie.
Mississippi's Ray-Patrick Didder swatted a game-tying RBI-double in the bottom of the sixth, but a superb relay throw the plate by Biscuits shortstop Lucius Fox on the same play kept the game knotted at three. The Biscuits would have another tremendous relay throw to the plate by Gray in the ninth to gun down Alejandro Salazar who was trying to score the winning run.
In the top of the tenth, the Biscuits loaded the bases several times against Josh Graham (2-0) and got RBI-singles from Dalton Kelly and Gray, before a sac fly by Brendan McKay appeared to put the game out of reach at 6-3.
Matt Krook (0-2) then came on for the bottom of the tenth, and after a wild pitch brought home Mississippi's fourth run, the lefty walked Garrison Schwartz before allowing a two-out single to Didder in the next at-bat.
Drew Waters then lined a game-tying two-run double down the right field line, moved to third on another wild pitch, and finally scored on Krook's third wild pitch of the inning with the winning run, erasing the three-run deficit with a four-run 10th to stun the Biscuits.
Montgomery will try to bounce back from the stupefying loss on Monday morning when Brendan McKay (0-0) will make his third Double-A start against Tucker Davidson (0-0) at 10:35 AM CT.
The Biscuits will return to Riverwalk Stadium for a 10-game home stand against the Birmingham Barons (first five games) and Mobile BayBears (last five games) beginning on Thursday, April 25 when it will be Field of Dreams Night with a T-Shirt Giveaway.
The home stand will also feature Joy to Life - Pink Out the Park Night featuring a Jersey Auction and MAX Fireworks on Friday, April 26; Harry Potter Night and MAX Fireworks on Saturday, April 27; Lil' Crumbs Dress Like a Player Hat Giveaway and Autism Awareness Day on Sunday, April 28; Craft Beer Night on Wednesday, May 1; Military Appreciation Night and MAX Fireworks on Friday, May 3; Star Wars Night featuring a Jersey Auction and MAX Fireworks on Saturday, May 4; and Cinco de Mayo Celebration on Sunday, May 5.
