PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Biscuits (58-35) made it close late, but ultimately saw their five-game winning streak come to an end in a 5-3 loss to the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (49-44) on Saturday night at Blue Wahoos Stadium.
Paul Campbell (4-2) got the ball for the Biscuits and allowed a sac fly to Lewin Diaz in the first inning to give the Wahoos their first lead of the series in game three, 1-0. An inning later, an error by Biscuits' shortstop Lucius Fox doubled the Pensacola lead to 2-0.
Josh Lowe would pull one back for the Biscuits with an RBI-single into left to make it 2-1, but that would be the lone run that Montgomery would tally in six innings against Pensacola starter Charlie Barnes (2-2).
In the bottom of the fifth, Campbell retired the first two batters on groundouts to short, but then surrendered five-consecutive hits: a triple to Travis Blankenhorn, an RBI-single to Alex Kirilloff, a single to Iván De Jesús Jr., an RBI-double to Diaz, and an RBI-single to Caleb Hamilton to put the game away for good at 5-1.
The Biscuits battled back in the eighth with a Vidal Brujan RBI-single and a Kevin Padlo sac fly to cut the deficit to two, and had runners at the corners with two outs in the ninth before Sam Clay struck out Rene Pinto swinging to secure his eighth save and the Wahoos first win of the series.
The Biscuits will try to rebound on Sunday when an opener and Kenny Rosenberg (8-1) tango with Jorge Alcala (5-5) at 5:05 PM CT.
The Biscuits will return to Riverwalk Stadium for the start of a four-game series against the Jackson Generals on July 18 for Tide Night featuring a T-Shirt Giveaway. The four-game homestand will also feature First Responders Night and MAX Fireworks on Friday, July 19; Man on the Moon Night featuring a Lunar Patch Giveaway and MAX Fireworks on Saturday, July 20; and Lil' Crumbs Dress Like a Player and Helmet Giveaway on Sunday, July 21.
