Regions Field
In April of 2013, the Birmingham Barons Baseball Club played their first game in their new ballpark, Regions Field. The state-of-the-art 8,500 seat facility in the heart of downtown replaced Hoover Metropolitan Stadium, the home of the Barons since 1988. The crown jewel of Birmingham's newly developed Parkside District, features a variety of unique seating areas, creating an intimate atmosphere and offering unique views of the downtown skyline, UAB, Children's Hospital, Vulcan and Red Mountain.
During development, the design team including HKS, Inc. and Hoskins Architecture worked to ensure that the ballpark drew on the rich heritage and history of Birmingham. In making Regions Field a truly unique ballpark, they considered the city's rich baseball heritage, the civil rights movement and drew heavily on the city's steel manufacturing past. The facade utilizes brick and steel, paying homage to Birmingham's industrial past and blending the ballpark with the surrounding neighborhood. Additional design elements inspired by Rickwood Field and Sloss Furnaces were utilized in the physical design.
With a continued emphasis on providing the most fun and affordable family-friendly entertainment in Birmingham, Regions Field features a variety of unique attractions for fans of all ages including a Youth Sports Zone, which houses a mini wiffle ball field, the Chick-Fil-A Family Fun Park, NAPA Batting Cages located in right field. The SwitchYard on 14th along the first base side of the ballpark under the iconic Birmingham sign is open during all Barons home games and non-gamedays during the season and offseason. Follow The SwitchYard On 14th on Facebook and Twitter for up to date hours of operation.
A spacious 360-degree concourse allows fans to see the action on the field as they move throughout the ballpark. Fans can also visit the center field entertainment area, which features the Coors Light Cool Zone for adult fans and a Dreamland BBQ Stand.
