(Nashua, NH) - The Norwich Sea Unicorns scored twice in the 10th inning, but fell in a wild walk off win for the Nashua Silver Kings Thursday night.
The Sea Unicorns strung together three consecutive two-out hits when Matt Malcom (East Lyme, CT/Eastern CT State University) doubled to right to drive in Jared Zimbardo (Middlesex, NJ/Quinnipiac) and Dean Slavin (Tappan, NY, Eastern CT State University) who set the table for the rally. However,
Kevin Sgaerland hit a dramatic two-out three-run homerun in the bottom of the 10th to earn the first victory of the season for the Silver Knights.
The game remained scoreless until the sixth, when Hunter Yaworski (Brooklyn, CT/Mitchell College) gave Norwich the lead with an RBI single. Yaworski finished the night 3-4 with an RBI.
Lombardi pitched 6.2 strong innings for the Sea Unicorns, scattering four hits and striking out five. The lone run he gave up was a game-tying homerun by Kyle Hannon to lead off the seventh for Nashua.
The Sea Unicorns return home to Dodd Stadium Friday night against the Pittsfield Suns at 7:00 pm, with a Postgame Fireworks Show presented by Liberty Bank.
