Palm Beach Walks Off Daytona in 6-5 Win Thursday Night

JUPITER, FL – The Palm Beach Cardinals (32-31; 65-64) beat the Daytona Tortugas (36-26; 57-71) in walk-off fashion by a final score of 6-5 on Wednesday night at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. It was their fifth walk-off win of the season.

The Tortugas took the lead in the top of the second inning when Arnaldo Lantigua hit a two-run home run to left field. Palm Beach starting pitcher Jacob Haley allowed the home run, but finished his two innings with two runs allowed, one of which was earned.

The Cardinals tied the game in the bottom of the third inning. After Trevor Haskins drew a leadoff walk, Sebastian Dos Santos hit a two-run home run to left field to tie the game 2-2.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Palm Beach took the lead. Jayden Lobliner and Trevor Haskins started the inning with consecutive singles, and Trevor Condon hit a double into left field to score both runners. It was Condon’s second double of the game, but he exited the game after the play. This gave Palm Beach a 4-2 lead after four innings.

Meanwhile, Earle Zulueta took over for the Cardinals in the second inning and tossed 3 1/3 shutout innings while striking out five Tortugas.

The score remained 4-2 until the top of the eighth inning. Daytona took the lead on an infield single by Jirvin Morillo and sacrifice flies from Ian Francis and Sherman Johnson. This put the Tortugas ahead 5-4.

Palm Beach immediately tied the game in the bottom of the eighth inning. Dee Kennedy reached on an infield single and advanced to third base on two wild pitches. With Lobliner at the plate, he scored on a wild pitch, which tied the game 5-5.

After Nathan Shinn (W, 2-2) pitched a perfect top of the ninth inning, the Cardinals were given three consecutive free passes to start the bottom of the ninth inning by Daytona’s reliever Tristian Smith (L, 1-2). With nobody out, Dos Santos scored on a wild pitch to secure a 6-5 walk-off win for Palm Beach.

It was their fifth walk-off win of the season and secured the Cardinals’ third consecutive win over the Tortugas with just three games remaining in the regular season.
