Selected in the 2nd round (No. 61 overall) of the 2022 MLB Draft by the New York Yankees out of Cal Poly... received a full slot-value $1,187,600 signing bonus when he signed with the Yankees on July 25, 2022... made his professional debut with Hudson Valley on April 9, 2023... was considered to have one of the best changeups in the 2022 Draft class... was one of four Cal Poly players drafted in 2022... was ranked by MLB.com as the No. 61 prospect in the 2022 Draft class... pitched and player shortstop in high school... entered the 2023 season ranked as the Yankees' No. 8 prospect and No. 1 RHP prospect... Thorpe immediately joined Cal Poly's rotation as a freshman in 2020 and served as the Mustangs' No. 1 starter in each of the next two seasons... was a consensus All-American in 2022 after ranking second in NCAA Division I in strikeouts (a school-record 149 in 104 2/3 innings) and third in hits per nine innings (5.6) while finishing his college career with 14 consecutive quality starts... Thorpe struck out 284 batters over 223 innings in his first three Mustang seasons, reaching double digits in strikeouts 13 times, including a record-tying school Division I mark with 15 strikeouts against UC San Diego last March... his 284 career strikeouts is No. 4 in the school record book... Thorpe finished his third season at Cal Poly second in the nation with 149 strikeouts, third in hits allowed per nine innings (5.59), sixth in WHIP (0.86), 10th in wins (10), 13th in strikeouts per nine innings (12.81), 17th with his 2.32 ERA and 24th in strikeout-to-walk ratio (5.96)... majored in kinesiology

Prior to Cal Poly, he played under head coach Chris Allred at Desert Hills High School in St. George, Utah... was a .390 hitter with 12 doubles and two home runs as a senior shortstop and pitcher... on the mound posted 7-1 record and 1.93 ERA with 67 strikeouts over 51 1/3 innings ... led Desert Hills to Utah state 4A title and 27-3 overall record ... earned All-Utah honors for third straight year ... as a junior compiled 9-1 win-loss record and 2.36 ERA ... struck out 83 batters over 59 1/3 innings, issuing just 12 walks, en route to first-team All-Utah honors ... pitched a no-hitter against Pine View in April 2018 with 12 strikeouts and no walks ... at the plate, Thorpe hit .395 with five doubles, two triples, one home run and 26 RBI with a pair of steals ... a .398 career hitter with 20 doubles, six triples and five home runs ...
