Selected in the first round (No. 15 overall) of the 2024 MLB Draft by the Seattle Mariners out of Mississippi State... previously drafted out of high school by the Milwaukee Brewers but opted instead to attend Mississippi State... signed with the Mariners on July 23, 2024... his father, Mechangelo Cijntje, was a right-handed pitcher who played professionally in the Netherlands; Jurrangelo, a natural lefty, wanted to copy his dad and liked wearing his glove, so he learned to throw with his other hand as well... his switch-pitching made news with Curacao’s 2016 Little League World Series... entered the 2025 season ranked as the No. 9 prospect in the Mariners' system by MLB.com... struck out six in his professional debut with Everett on April 6, 2025... was a two-year letterman at Champagnat Catholic High School in Miami, Florida -- in 81 innings, Cijntje had a 2.32 ERA and allowed 39 hits, 39 runs and 31 walks. He finished 7-6 with 166 strikeouts and a 0.86 WHIP average... was ranked as the No. 1 BHP in the nation and in the state of Florida, the No. 34 overall pitcher in the nation and the No. 9 overall prospect in the state of Florida by Perfect Game; Perfect Game also rated him as a 10/10 prospect... made his collegiate debut with Mississippi State in 2023, appearing in 50 innings across 14 appearances, mostly as a starter... he led the team in strikeouts (63)... in 2024, he was named to Second Team Perfect Game and NCBWA All-American, was an ABCA/Rawlings First Team All-Region selection... appeared in and started 16 games, tied for most wins in the pitching staff with eight and finished 8-2 across 90 2/3 innings.
